S.V. Decker Jewelry Opens Shop Downtown
Downtown Milford has gained a new business, Stefanie Decker, owner of S.V. Decker Jewelry, at 37 River Street. Stafanie has transformed what was the former Milford Oyster Festival office for years, into a fabulous jewelry store and workshop - yes, all her pieces are handmade by the artist in residence!
S.V. Decker Jewelry was started in 2013 on the campus of Fairfield University. While completing her undergraduate degree at Fairfield, Stefanie decided to feed her inner desires to create, and thought no better way to do so than by creating handmade, wearable art. Her jewelry which started out as simple designs made in her dorm room quickly began to progress into more intricate forms of fabrication. As she fine tuned her skills and saw a steady demand for her product, Stefanie developed her studio and first retail location in the Historic Downtown of Milford, CT. Now, all pieces are designed and crafted in her Downtown Milford store filled with inspiration and innovation.
After receiving her undergraduate degree from Fairfield University, Stefanie committed herself to all things jewelry, determined to make her business a success. She began by studying under master metal smiths such as Steven Parker, a professor of Jewelry Fabrication at Fashion Institute of Technology; Victoria Lansford, a renowned metalsmith specializing in repousse work, and John Cogswell, author of Creative Stonesetting. Stefanie also studied at The Jewelry Arts Institute of Manhattan focusing primarily on ancient techniques such as granulation, fusing and hand making chain.
Stefanie's meticulous planning and methodic approach to jewelry design from the creative to the technical aspects of each piece are illustrated in all of her handmade pieces.
